After the success of the last edition, Turismo do Alentejo ERT, promotes once again the Turismo do Alentejo 2011 Awards, an initiative that aims at distinguishing and disseminate projects and activities of significant importance to tourism, which have contributed to improving the tourism offer of the destination and, in general, to strengthen the competitiveness of the sector in the region.

On the 26th and 27th March last year, the city of Beja, hosted the first Turismo do Alentejo congress.

During the Congress Official Dinner the application of Elvas for World Heritage will be presented.

The application of the Bastion Fortifications of Elvas for UNESCO encompasses the Forte de Nossa Senhora da Graça, a masterpiece of European military architecture of the eighteenth-century, the Forte de Santa Luzia, of the seventeenth-century, the set of bastions of the city and the complementary buildings of the nineteenth-century.

Amongst this wide complex of monuments, the majestic aqueduct of Amoreira, which construction started in 1529, stands out.
